Year Two – in their own words..
It is the end of an era for the Year Two children as they approach their final few days at the Children’s House before moving onto their new schools. It has been such a memorable year. The children have worked incredibly hard and have had a lot of fun since September. Here are some of the things they have been getting up to this term.
Growing up – By Lukas
We played guess the baby and I was so cute! Me holding Alfred was so cute also, but me as a toddler was even cuter. When I grow up I want to be an architect, racer, toy store worker and an ice-cream worker. We also talked about life cycles of bees, grey partridges and human beings.
Tap – By Klara
With Amy we’re doing shake, rattle and roll. It’s really fun!! Our moves are f-lap, toe heel, suffle shuffle shuffle stamp. We used to make our own warm ups. We put a line with tape so we would remember where we were in the performance. We nearly know all of it. It was really hard the first time. Our laces kept falling off in the middle of the lesson and Amy had to keep tying them. It happened eight times to me!!!! It was really funny!
Grey Patridges - by Anna and Thea
We had Grey Partridge eggs in our classroom as part of a conservation project, but sadly four of these little eggs didn’t make it out. They were called Fluffball, Furry and Nosy (the funny one). When they were taken out they jumped into the food bowl. Another chick had given someone a one and only goodbye present (which was a poo). Jumpy (there’s a clue in his name) always jumped around and was unusually full of beans and would never actually want to sleep, whereas Sleepy was always trying to sleep in the food bowl, drink, eat or sleep again. Fluffball was so shy. He’ tried to poop in the food, on someone, in the wood shavings or even in the water. Furry was shy too. Splat was always running into things, including his brothers and sisters. Eventually they went back to Norfolk to be released into the wild.
Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole - by Ashni and Anna-Sophie
In the first half term we went to the FLorence Nightingale Museum. WHen we arrived we met Florence Nightingale the nurse inside. She said that we went into a time machine. Then she took us into a room like her house. Anna-Sophie acted out Parthenope, her sister. George acted out her dad and I acted out her mummy. Her sister was also called Pop! Next we were split into groups and each group went to different rooms in the museum. We also made dioramas. The first was Scutari Hospital before Florence, after Florence and also Mary Seacole’s British Hotel.
Art with Felicity - by Florence and Beth
In Art we are taught by a lovely lady called Felicity. We made bee houses and Felicity told us about how if we use complementary colours makes the bee houses look brighter. She also taught us how to describe art using words such as line, tone, form, shading, shape and pattern. We made colourful labels for our seed balls and then we made clay bees. We also used tissue paper to make different tones. Some were very flappy.
Computing - by Tom and George
In computing we go on Scratch and create loads of cool projects. Tom did this awesome super scratch car deluxe and there are cars that zoom around the track and if you got the quickest time in the world you get a trophy. I’m making a game that is so new and exciting. It has control and an enemy.
Summer Fair - by Eli and Chloe
For the summer fair we (year two) made a stall to raise money to help bees. We sold bags, t-shirts, framed posters, honey biscuits, necklaces, bee houses, greetings card and seed balls. Friends of the Earth was the charity we supported. If you want to save the bees support the Bee Cause. We all made a bee and a flower each, and painted it with colourcolour and added detail with oil pastels. Eli won a prize for a finding game. The prize was 1000 aqua dragons.
Maths - by Harry
We have been learning about time, multiplication and addition. We have also been learning about money for the fair. In the time section we have been doing quarter past, quarter to, digital and analogue. For example a digital clock looks like this 10:05.
Science and Healthy Living Week - by Rhys and Henry
For Science week we made different experiments after we rotated and moved to different classes to try out different experiments. The experiments were in reception, year one and year two. In reception, Taiba made a paper ball and Kerry made a propellor and we guessed which would stay up the longest. In Year One we tried to make pepper stick to a balloon without using your hand. It was actually quite simple, Chris told us you just have to rub the balloon on your head and hold it above the pepper. In Year Two we had five eggs and five drinks. We saw what would happen to the eggs if we left them in sugary drinks for a week.
Bees – By Milo and Rufus
This term our topic was all about bees. We have learnt there are three different parts – the head, throax and the abdomen. My favourite part was drawing the bees in detail and painting them with water colours. It was great to see our drawings on the t-shirts and bags for the summer fair. We went to King Henry’s Walk and saw a bee hive. We put on bee masks and played a pollination game. Our end of year play is about endangered species, especially bees!
London Symphony Orchestra – by Max and Blake
When we went to the LSO we saw Hairy McClairy. It was about lots of dogs getting up to mischief. We had to sing a special song when the orchestra were playing and it sounded very exciting. Our favourite instruments were the violins because they played really fast!
