Year 1
As the term draws to a close Year 1 has taken the time to refect on all the things we have experienced together over the Autumn. Our themes this term were ‘Ourselves’ and ‘Toys From The Past’. Here a a few highlights from this autumn term.
In Literacy we have done a number of engaging drama and practical activities .
I liked writing about the story Not a Stick. I imagined the stick to be a train. We read the story and then we sat in a circle and each of us go a turn, people guessed what people were holding the stick were doing. Then I wrote about the stick being a train. I drew a miniature train. Wilbo
My favourite part of the term was the book Where The Wild Things Are. We made a puppet show. We drew and cut out puppets we stuck little straws on. We put the puppets on top of a stage and we played the parts and we went in groups to do it. I played Max sailing away and a Wild Thing swinging tree to tree. Harry
My favourite part of the term was doing the Missing Poster for a banana. I liked it because it was fun. We got to taste the fruit. We tasted bannanas and mangos and other fruit from the book Handa’s Surprise. In the books animals take all her fruit then a goat bumps into a tree and the tangerines fill up her empty basket. Maximillian
We have worked with out topic ‘Toys From The Past’ in a number of ways including creating our own museum of childhood toys.
I liked writing about my favourite toy. It was a Nintendo Switch. I also brought in my mummy’s pound puppies. She said she played with them when she was eight. I drew and painted a picture of them. Arthur
It was fun when we talked about the old toys and drew a picture of them. I drew a cricket bat that had Michael Atherton’s name on it. He used to be England’s captian when my daddy was a little boy. We cut the drawing out and put it in a box and made our own museum. Tommy
In Science we worked with the topic ‘Ourselves’ by learning all about the human body and how we grow and change over time.
My favourite part of the term was looking at the baby pictures. We went through a time tunnel and Kerry said we had travelled back in time and would see pictures of our class. They had cute faces we had to recognise who they were and write it down on a clip board. Indie
It was exciting going through the time tunnel. I liked it because I saw my friends as babies. We did guessing ‘who is the baby’ because they have sort of the same hair and eyes and lips and their heads also have the same shape of their head. We learned about bones too in Science. Uzi
In geography during Our Wonderful World Week we talked about the different parts of the world some our families come from. We also learned about the different climate regions, the animals that inhabit them and how they adapt to live in different climates.
I liked colouring the map of the world. We coloured in the hot and cold places. Then we cut out and glued on animals that live in the hot and cold places. Animals in cold places hibernate when it’s winter. Auden
Activities such as eating together, playtime in our ever changing playground and after school clubs were a highlight for some children.
Everyday I like playing outside and seeing my friends in the playground. I liked the climbing frame. I like playing games like pretending we are lizards and making new friends. I like playing puppies. One time the little house was a hospital. Bobby
My favourite thing is lunch. I like to eat pudding. I like talking to my friends and making jokes. My favourite lunch is tuna and sweet corn sandwiches. It’s so yummy! Ray
We filled our marble jar all the way to the top so we got to have a party. I liked it because we watched blue planet and ate popcorn. Raffi
My favourite was the marble jar. We filled it by getting points by getting the star for quietest table and tidiest table. When it was all filled up we had a party where we got to draw and make a den out of tables and blankets. Madeleine
My favourite part this term was pottery club because I got to make my own inventions out of clay. I made a big heart to give to my mummy and daddy. I made the shape then I painted it red. I waited for it to go in the kiln because it makes it hard with the fire in the kiln. Max
We have been on a number of interesting outings in London.
The pictures at Kenwood House were lovely and we got to explore the house. I liked looking at the pictures; there were some interesting ones with nice colours. I also liked all the trees around the house and the sun was up when we where there. I liked going exploring on the nature trails. We saw big sculptures. I’ve been there before and I remembered looking at the view of London. Alex
My favourite part of the term was going to Kenwood House. I liked it because the portraits had lots of texture. I liked the portraits because they were very interesting. You could see into the distance in some of them! I also liked drawing the portraits of ourselves in the workshop room. I liked the special mirror we used because they were double sided. We ate lunch altogether in the old kitchen. Amelia
At The Museum of Childhood because I saw old toys and new toys. We got to play in this lighting up area. When we touched the lights they changed colour. I saw dolls that the lady showed us. Some were broken and that meant they were old. I liked playing with the Sylvanian Family. The bunny is my favourite character. Betsy
My favourite part of the term was the Museum of Childhood. I liked it because we looked at old toys. I liked the big toy house behind the glass. I hadn’t seen one quite like that before. I do have a wide one at my home. I got to hold the oldest toy. We talked about toys our grandparents and parents used to play with and all the new toys too. Ella
The best bit was the London Symphony Orchestra. We learned a song about the Loch Ness Monster and a dragon song. We took a coach there. I liked the string family and the big drum because it made a big loud noise. It was really fun. I even had a snack there. Sam
I loved going to the Barbican to see the LSO concert! I liked it because of the music. They showed us all the different instruments at the Barbican. My favourite was the violin because we have violins at school. I find holding the bow uncomfortable but it’s getting better! Freya
My favourite part of the term was going to see the orchestra. I liked it because I learned new songs. I knew all the songs we sang together. There were a few other schools. I liked seeing the violins because I know how to play them. Isla
As the children have made the leap from Reception to Year 1 we have seen what determination and perservence they possess. Thanks to all of the incredible family, friends and caregivers for their loving support. We look forward to welcoming you back after the holiday and hearing about all of your adventures.
