As we near the end of the first half of the Spring term, I would like to start by saying a huge thank you to everyone at home and school for your enormous efforts in keeping the remote learning going. The responses to activities I have seen over the past couple of weeks have been nothing short of incredible, and it is fantastic to see the children putting such thought, initiative and creativity into their work. Each week the children continue to impress!
Over the past couple of weeks, the children have been very busy. They continued to delve deeper into history through comparing modern day trains with trains from the past, and this week travelled to Kittyhawk, North Carolina to experience the very first flight in Flyer 1 as one of the Wright Brothers, over a hundred years ago. Our Art has continued to focus on movement, and the artists of Year 2 have produced some outstanding pieces, from optical illusions to their very own interpretations of work inspired by Keith Haring. Just take a look at some of their artwork, truly inspiring! They also took this further in Dance with Amy where they made some interesting moves based on some of the shapes seen in Haring’s paintings.
In Literacy, I have been fortunate enough to listen to the children read and my goodness they are getting better and better each week. The class played reading bingo to see how many interesting places they could find to read in, and there were plenty of comfy chairs and dens to be found! This week we moved onto narrative and are creating story maps to help us write and retell the story of the Magic Paintbrush, an ancient Chinese folktale, ready for Chinese New Year next week.
In Maths, the children have had their measuring hats on. They have been estimating, weighing, measuring and problem-solving using Kg and g, which will continue into next week as we move into capacity. The children have been weighing their toys and helping the Toyshop to calculate what combinations of toys are needed to go into their parcels. Keep going Year 2, it looks like you are having a lot of fun!
