These last two weeks have flown by as the children have settled back into their classroom routines and reconnected with their friends. It has been such a delight to be back together again. The playground is full of joy and laughter, and in the classroom, the timetable is back in full swing as the children have been busy with their learning activities. Since being back, we have approached much of our work across all areas of the curriculum in a collaborative way. After so long apart it was wonderful to see the children working cooperatively with one another, strengthening bonds, and for some, building new ones!
In Literacy, our Traction Man theme is still going strong and has been woven through every aspect of the children’s learning, from working in groups to plan their own London adventure, to designing and building their own moving vehicle in the afternoons, and measuring how far they travelled in the playground when tested on various ramps. Our class comic book is close to completion and almost ready to take pride of place in the book corner. Year 2 should feel very proud of what they have already achieved in such a short space of time.
We also spent a week conducting a traffic survey, creating bar charts and tally charts to record our findings. During our World Book Day, the children made pictograms to display their favourite types of books. The children have now completed their Easter bonnets, and have had free reign over the design and materials used; they are looking rather fabulous if I do say so myself. You are in for a treat! Our circle time this week focussed on a story called ‘You’ve got dragons,’ by Kathryn Cave, which addresses the theme of worries. The children talked about what their own ‘dragons’ represented and have created giant painted dragons to display on our boards and bring our classroom to life. What made me so happy was seeing how beautifully and calmly the children worked together, giving advice and compliments as they did so. The children have also thoroughly enjoyed dancing with Amy, singing with Hannah and our new Tuesday favourite, drama club with Izzy!
Have a fantastic weekend,
Aisha.
