Year 1
Year 1 have been getting into the festive spirit, returning to school last Thursday to find the classroom had been turned into a Winter wonderland and raided by a cheeky little elf! The children were understandably excited to arrive back at school and reunite with their classmates just in time for the final few days of term. Thank you, parents, for all of your help and cooperation during the home learning period. The children also returned to school dressed in green, and discussed the importance of trees in the environment, and how we can become a greener school.
The past few days have been filled with festive song rehearsals, getting ready for our end of term singing concert. We can’t wait for you to hear us!
The children have also been reading many stories, such as the Nativity story, and more recently, following on from our umbrella theme of toys, Dogger’s Christmas. The children have been sequencing, planning and writing their very own lost toy Christmas story featuring their favourite cuddly toy. The children will finish these next week and create their own books, ready to take pride of place in our reading sanctuary.
In Maths the children have been using their understanding of shape to create repeating patterns. They also used these patterns to create decorations for their Christmas cards, featuring a snowy Christmas scene complete with beautifully blended oil pastel trees. We also looked at symmetry in pattern and in objects around us, and produced some wonderful snowflake themed baubles, which now sit proudly on our class tree!
With only a few days to go until we break for the Christmas holidays, I’d like to say another big thank you for all your support during what has been a very busy, but fantastic first term in Year 1.
Merry Christmas!
