Dear Parents,
This is my final farewell after more than a quarter of a century at The Children’s House. You can imagine the strength of emotion in my final two days of term. Fortunately, it was business as usual until Thursday, so the enormity of my departure didn’t hit home until the end.
Thank you for your kind words and for coming to Thursday afternoon’s concert and goodbye. You and your children have a huge place in my heart - The Children’s House is a community as well a wonderful school. It is held together by you, the amazing staff, the governors and at the centre of everything, your beautiful children.
Your generous leaving gift will be a painting - not yet finished. I will send an image as soon as it is complete. Thank you.
Yesterday was extraordinary. Following a charming end of year concert at the Nursery, I arrived back at the Upper School to find the children waiting for me. They performed a medley of poems and songs written by them and led by our former music teacher Matthew Miller (here). The hand-made book (presented by the children) full of their artwork and messages, from Nursery to Year 2, is breathtaking and will be treasured by me forever. The children’s collaboration and joyous spirit shone through yesterday.
I know that you, the governors and staff will ensure the success of the expanded school. It is an exciting time for your children, who should continue to thrive in a creative, child-centred environment. I wish Ellie well and can’t wait to visit in the autumn.
Goodbye to the leavers, who were small in number this year. You are always a part of the school and are welcome to visit at any time. Good luck at your new schools.
To you and your families, enjoy a happy and relaxing summer break.
Warm wishes,
Kate
