Dear Parents,
The sweet aromas of baking have been wafting through the school this week, and it has required self discipline not to taste the treats that the children prepared for the Farmer’s Market (though I did swipe a secret energy ball this morning - delicious!) From rhubarb and strawberry crumble to rock cakes, pizzas and Vietnamese fresh rolls, there was something for every palate. The Year Threes did a splendid job of taking the money and proceeds will go towards the soup kitchen that runs out of St Stephen’s Church, Canonbury, where our first nursery was based 50 odd years ago. It’s wonderful to continue to support this church and the local community in this way. https://ststephenscanonbury.org.uk/latest-news
There are a selection of religious and cultural celebrations that we will be marking over the coming months. Parents, you are very welcome to come in and share some of your own stories, artifacts and cultural experiences with your child's class, particularly during our Wonderful World Fortnight from 3rd October - 14th October. Please contact your child's teacher.
On Wednesday’s themed assembly, pupils thought about Jewish New Year, which I celebrated myself at the beginning of the week. Harvest Festival celebrations have continued in music lessons in preparation for a special Harvest Assembly next Thursday. The vicar of St Jude and St Paul’s will share some thoughts at that assembly, and children will sing songs including The Harvest Samba. I had the pleasure of witnessing some of the Year One’s Samba moves as they rehearsed this with Sarah on Thursday which made my afternoon!
Celebration Assembly is proving to be a special weekly occasion for everyone. Today, we had some careful instruction writing from Year Three, using imperative verbs and time connectives to organise their recipes. From Reception, there was a beautiful version of Van Gogh’s Starry Night and from across the Upper School special mentions of pupils for enthusiasm, perseverance, excellent manners and reading.
Autumn is here and children have begun to enjoy making leaf collages at playtime. Please send pupils in with a school sweatshirt or fleece, so that they stay warm.
Have a lovely weekend.
Best
Ellie
