5 Year Vision
Five Year Vision 2021 – 2026
After years of requests from parents to provide non-selective independent education in the local area we have finally embarked upon our exciting expansion project! This year, with our first ever Year Three class, begins a four year journey into a co-educational, mixed ability prep school catering for children from Nursery to Year 6. Our vision is to provide a stimulating, modern curriculum delivered by experienced and highly skilled teachers, with subject specialists leading key areas of learning. Learning is theme based and hands on, with a broad co-curricular offering encompassing music, arts, sport and languages.
Clubs include French, to run alongside the Spanish that is taught from the Nursery upwards, chess, fencing, LAMDA, pottery and an ever-changing assortment of other entertaining options, increasing as the school expands. Our handy location close to the city provides easy access to London’s abundance of attractions, and pupils in all classes enjoy regular trips to and from museums and workshops, bringing their topics to life.
Learning is tailored, with favourable adult pupil ratios that allow us to stretch, challenge and support each individual. Curiosity, a growth mindset and resilience are cultivated, and we nurture each and every child, working closely with parents to ensure that pupils develop confidence and independence that will prepare them thoroughly for their 11+ examinations and for their future lives.
We are fortunate to have two very beautiful buildings with historical and spiritual significance, that bring an aura of calm and spaciousness into the school. We are currently in the midst of renovating and remodelling both sites, to accommodate 60 extra pupils over the coming years.
Our light filled classrooms are vibrant, dynamic and inspiring learning spaces brimming with practical resources that support and facilitate learning, from chromebooks and interactive boards to cosy reading corners and open-ended enquiry topic tables. Our focus is on traditional skills and children develop cursive handwriting from Year One, but we also offer a full IT programme through which children learn touch typing, coding and other skills to enable them to succeed in our modern technological world.
The playground at KHW is a multi-activity space which the children in all year groups enjoy. From climbing, skipping, a variety of sports, to imaginative play with sand or water and quiet drawing or origami, there are activities set out to suit every type of child, and to reinforce the learning taking place inside the classrooms. At Elmore Street, our renovations in Summer 2024 will provide indoor/outdoor flow space for our youngest children. We will continue to partner with offsite facilities such as King Henry’s Walk Adventure Playground, the Almorah Gardens & Britannia Leisure Centre to complement our own outdoor provision.
Our vision for Elmore Street is to create a dedicated Early Years centre that will facilitate collaboration between all of our Early Years’ practitioners to build children’s communication, confidence and independence. Children will benefit from a seamless transition from nursery into Reception, during which they, will continue to be given strong foundations in literacy and numeracy. At the same time they will be gently prepared for the transition into more formal schooling in Year One at the Upper School. All of our Early Years children will enjoy visits to the KHW site whilst benefitting from the outdoor play areas around Elmore St and the multitude of resources specifically for their developmental stage at their site.
